Work has now started on the electrification of Oxford Bus Company's depot on Cowley. Zenobe is providing the charging infrastructure and EDF Energy is installing a 8mW electrical connection to Cowley House. Each charging point will impart 150kW of DC power, enough for each vehicle to cover in excess of 170 miles each day. The investment, including 104 new Wrightbus vehicles, is funded by Go-Ahead Group, Oxfordshire County Council and the Department for Transport's ZEBRA (Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas) fund. The work at Cowley House is part of a wider project, Energy Superhub Oxford. This will also include a new battery storage system, a high-power private wire charging network and an electric vehicle charging hub at Redbridge Park & Ride. www.route-one.net/news/work-begins-at-go-aheads-giant-charging-hub-in-oxford/There is speculation that existing ADL Enviro400 MMCs from Oxford Bus Company will be transferred to Plymouth CityBus to replace older vehicles, including ex-Brighton & Hove Scania OmniDekkas that are getting on for twenty years old and are becoming increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain.

There are timetable changes from Sunday 23rd July, mostly to give extra running time for routes along Abingdon Road as more traffic is using this route with Botley Road being closed. New Thames Travel services Connector X34 and X35 will operate between Didcot and Harwell Park, replacing the southern section of Connector X32 which will continue to operate between Didcot and John Radcliffe (JR) Hospital. Route X35 will continue to Wantage every 30 minutes, and hourly on to Faringdon replacing route 67. Route X34 will run hourly to and from Newbury via Chilton and the A34, in Newbury buses will serve the stops at Vodafone Roundabout, along London Road and Park Way and at Newbury Wharf Bus Station. On Sundays and Public holidays route X35 will operate hourly between Didcot and Wantage but will omit Harwell Park. As the Bus Gate in Great Western Park will be available for use again from 23rd July, Didcot local services 93, 97 and 98 will no longer operate and will be replaced by the new X34/X35 and changes to the X32 route. www.oxfordbus.co.uk/service-changes-23rd-july-2023

Carousel Buses will have a number of service changes from Sunday 27th August, coinciding with wider changes to the network of services supported by Buckinghamshire Council. Amongst the highlights are: - route 8 (High Wycombe Park & Ride) will have a revised route and timetable, with some journeys operating as X8 direct via Marlow Hill. A handful of journeys will operate to Lane End, Stokenchurch and Cadmore End as route 28. - High Wycombe local service 38 (Deeds Grove) will be operated by Carousel Buses from this date. - route 41 (High Wycombe-Great Missenden) will be extended to Old Amersham and Amersham. The route has seen a growth in patronage since carousel Buses started operating in January 2023 and it is hoped the extension to Amersham, which has been requested by the local community, will generate extra custom. - Chiltern Hundreds 103 (High Wycombe-Slough) will be extended to Windsor. In Beaconsfield the route will be rerouted via Wilton Park in place of route 101 which will follow the same routing as the 102. Chiltern Hundreds routes 106/107 (Amersham-Slough) will be rerouted in Little Chalfont via Elizabeth Drive and Chalfont & Latimer Station. All the Chiltern Hundreds routes will have revised timetables with extra peak time journeys on the 103. - route 275 (High Wycombe-Oxford), previously operated by Red Rose, will be taken on by Carousel Buses with a revised timetable. - route 583 will be revised to operate between Hedgerley, Slough and Uxbridge and will incorporate the route 83 currently operated by Redline Buses. www.carouselbuses.co.uk/service-changes-27th-august-2023It is also worth noting that Carousel Buses is currently operating a free shuttle service between Uxbridge and Denham, normally using a Mercedes Sprinter minibus. This is funded by HS2 and is operating whilst Moorhall Road is closed, meaning that TfL route 331 is diverted via Harvil Road and is not serving Denham. The service commenced on Saturday 29th July and is expected to continue until Friday 18th August.

I particularly like route 275 joining Carousel. It will mean Oxford and High Wycombe linked by a GA route. I shall probably ride it once the electric buses have entered service in Oxford.

Does Carousel operating the 275 re-introduce Carousel to the 'Go-Anywhere' ticket given a Go-Ahead Link between each operator (OBC, TT & CB) will be made possible again?

Oxford Bus and Thames Travel have a few timetable changes from 27th August, mostly to improve reliability or accommodate school travel. River Rapids X40 is to have more running time on Sundays and extra Sunday short journeys operating between Reading and Caversham Heights (Highmoor Road) as route 40C. www.oxfordbus.co.uk/service-changes-27th-august-2023

Oxford Airline will have a revised and enhanced timetable from Sunday 28th May, with departures from Oxford and Heathrow Airport up to every 20 minutes for a large part of the day. Twelve extra journeys will operate in each direction. Seven new Mercedes-Benz Tourismos have been acquired, which will replace five existing coaches (67-71 which are now more than seven years old) plus two for the increased service. As now, some journeys (usually once an hour) will be extended to Gatwick Airport. Towards Gatwick Airport these journeys will be revised to call at Central Bus Station first, and will then call at Compass Centre and Terminal 5 on the way to Gatwick Airport. www.theairlineoxford.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Airline-summer-2023-A4-timetable-V6-1.pdfRegistrations for the new Tourismos: 23 - BF23 CHN 24 - BF23 CHO 25 - BF23 CHV 26 - BF23 CHX 27 - BF23 CHZ 28 - BF23 CJE 29 - BF23 CJJ BF73 CCO 23, 24 and 25 are registered and at least two of these will enter service on 28th May when the frequency increase comes into effect. The rest will be registered and will replace coaches 67-71 during June. Due to late delivery, 29 had its 23 registration voided and has been registered as BF73 CCO.

Talking of the change from BST to GMT, I got home from London late, into the early hours of this morning. As it only meant staying up another few minutes, I was (if only just) up late enough to see my smartphone change from 1.59am to 1.00am.

Oxfordshire County Council has been awarded an additional £1.9 million of BSIP+ (Bus Service Improvement Plan Plus) money, on top of the £12.7 million that was awarded in 2022. The money will be used to support promotional £1 single fares on Sundays in December, enhancements to various services, and to support bus routes where patronage is being adversely affected by the Botley Road closure in Oxford. The County also intends to introduce a county-wide day ticket which would be valid on all operators - currently Stagecoach and Oxford City/Thames Travel day tickets ate valid on each other's services within the City of Oxford, but there is no equivalent county-wide ticket. Services to be enhanced with BSIP/BSIP+ funding include Oxford orbital routes serving the hospitals (which would regain weekend services), faster peak buses between Banbury and Oxford, a new route from Witney and Carterton to Swindon, a faster direct bus from Carterton to Oxford, and improvements to Thames Travel X40 (Oxford-Reading) and Reading Buses 25 (Reading-Peppard Common). www.focustransport.org/2023/10/funding-for-1-sunday-fares-for.html
