I wonder if London will move to adopt as systems where a number of routes are tendered as a single contract. I think this would be a good idea but probably just in a limited number of cases, where it might cut costs to crosslink certain routes together. We've already recently seen some school routes jointly tendered with a standard route, such as the 160/660 and 142/642. Could perhaps have a similar approach to routes with small PVRs or limited operating times - ideally crosslinking to routes with one common terminus. For example, the 327/491 or 167/549, or could be groups of smaller routes, such as the some of the R routes or the 383/389/399?

Transport for Greater Manchester has ordered 50 BYD/ADL Enviro400 City EV electrics for its new Bee Network, the first phase of which is due to launch on 17th September 2023 centred on Wigan and Bolton. The buses are funded through the Government's City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement, and will be followed by 300 more between 2024 and 2027. Phase Two of Bee Network, North Greater Manchester, will launch at the end of March 2024 and the final Phase Three, South Greater Manchester, is scheduled for 5th January 2025 at which point the entire Transport for Greater Manchester bus network will be under local control. Franchising will be based on depots rather than individual routes; there will be ten larger contracts and some smaller packages. There is strong interest in bidding, with nine operators having submitted 33 bids between them. Go North West has bid for 300 buses-worth of work in Wigan and Bolton. Although TfGM will be purchasing Rotala Diamond Bus Bolton depot and buses to lease out to Go North West, Rotala Diamond have won 7 of the 9 small franchises, to run from a replacement to their Eccles depot. They have apparently ordered 67 new buses, probably small buses.
The other 2 small franchise results are as yet unknown, but rumoured to have gone to Vision Bus.

hi im new this forum. I wonder what happen to stagecoach in wigan will respond or comment about Go north west contract in wigan? Any idea? Thank you. Martyn Transport for Greater Manchester will presumably buy out Stagecoach services in Wigan. Stagecoach are of course well placed to win the main contract in South Manchester/sub area C which commences in January 2025. There will be a lot of interest in how the Greater Manchester franchising works out as it is different to London where routes are tendered individually.

Rotala (Diamond Bus North West) is reducing a number of its commercially-operated services and withdrawing others in April, five months before the start of franchised services in Bolton and Wigan. On the routes it is withdrawing, any journeys contracted to TfGM will continue to be operated. Although Diamond Bus has won several smaller contracts including services in Salford and Bury, the main contract has been won by Go North West who will be taking over the Diamond Bus depot in Bolton. Although staff will be able to transfer under TUPE regulations, Diamond Bus is anticipating staff shortages in the meantime and the cuts appear to be pre-emptory. Vision Bus will also withdraw all its commercially-operated journeys on route 527. Vision Bus has not won any of the contracted work to commence in September. Transport for Greater Manchester is currently in discussions to see how much of the work, if any, can be covered by other operators. There is no news yet (unless anyone knows different!) of Stagecoach's intentions regarding its Wigan-based operations, which will also be lost to Go North West in September as will be the "Vantage" routes on the Leigh Busway currently operated by First. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/bus-services-cut-across-greater-25986859?int_source=nba

Martyn And what incentive is there for them to invest in services that are being taken away from them. Really it is the Manchester Mayor and Go-Ahead as the future operator that should be incentivised. Gives them the opportunity to remove assets from the area before they get requisitioned.
