Following the recent changes to vocational licensing test requirements holders of a manual category B licence can take their LGV/PCV test in an automatic vehicle and still receive a manual pass for category C/D.
I can't stress the manual car licence part enough. If your licence has the restriction code 78 next to your B entitlement on the photo card, stop reading now.
Importantly, existing licence holders can claim the upgrade meaning those that passed their LGV/PCV test in an automatic but have a manual car licence can request the restriction to be removed. All that is required from you is to send a letter to DVLA requesting the upgrade thus removing the 78 restriction code on the C/D entitlement.
Having done exactly this for my brother, I am now making a template letter available to ALL members here that may wish to take advantage of the change.
Attached to this post is a ".docx" file that recent versions of word SHOULD open. If anyone has any trouble (or indeed needs it in Mac format!) let me know and I'll see what I can do with it.
Letters requesting the upgrade should be sent to:
VOC DCS CASEWORK D6
DVLA
SWANSEA
SA99 1ZZ
According to the notice at work, there is no fee for this service.
The company I work for recommends that your existing licence isn't sent with your letter in case it is required for driver training/CPC. On receipt of your new licence, the old one should be sent to:
DVLA
SWANSEA
SA99 1ZW
As a suggestion for those claiming this upgrade, it may be worth speaking to a LGV/PCV driver training school near you for some refresher training on a manual box once the new licence is received. Whether you do this or not is up to you but it can't hurt! A manual coach will of course behave differently.
Kindest Regards,
Mike
