Hello,
We are the owners of uww16x, a leyland olympian from eastbourne.
Last year we started a full repair of the bus, because it was flooded by the Seine twice (about 1.5 month in total underwater above engine) and was completely scrap. We did repair all the chassis, air and electricity system, engine, floor etc. Now she is starting nicely, with no warning light and nearly no air leak but...
The gearbox is problematic, or at least in my mind. When on start or neutral, the bus move if we remove the handbrake and press the trottle enough. Solenoids are not engaged.
My first question is: Is it normal that there is a least a bit of coupling when solenoid are not engaged (like you can park properly in case of electricity failure)?
Today we are checking again the electric system of the gearbox and panel and will probably come back with other question
Thanks a lot if you have knowledge or advise to share about that and I'll let you know if we troubleshoot the problem ourself.
Bye

Hi, we've found a broken spring in the main pressure/attenuation valve who was delivering way to much pressure (manometer broke so over 20 bars) to the gear box preventing it to release breakband. we hope a nice running test tomorrow when the spare parts arrive. Just a little spring and a whole machine is broken Just to let you know.

In no way am I mechanically minded, but you do appear to be largely being ignored, so I thought I’d welcome you to the forums.
Ex. West Yorkshire PTE if I recall correctly, and indeed Eastbourne. What livery are you going to restore it in?

Sadly, I can't help you out but great to see another Olympian being preserved - I rode UWW13X at the Metrobus open day in 2013 preserved in Metrobus Yellow & Blue and it was a brilliant runner. Good luck with your project

Hi! Thank you for your answers. First the bad news: we've changed the spring and set the correct pressure but the problem remain with a step in the right way: Now when we select reverse, the bus is not going forward anymore. its not going backward either but that a step. We have now 4 positions going forward: S H A and neutral and one neutral position which is R. Another problem appear this morning: the front level regulator seem defective because front left is up to the maximum height and front right is down like when vigorously turning at full speed. not hard to solve but its a bit painful to discover another problem after another we keep investigating. londonbusboy I don't have a facebook account, gonna ask the wife to contact Bromley Bus Preservation Group. The main problem is that there is very little mechanics in those group in my experience, many more drivers/users which with all the good will can't really help. Also young mechanics have no idea how to deal with old stuff like Olympian I'll try anyway: Thanks for the tip and for answering me ! twobellstogo : West Yorkshire PTE - Metrobus - Wilts & Dorset - Eastbourne Buses About the livery, do you talk about the outside color? it is gonna be eastbourne buses color. but we hesitate to keep the top blue because in summer it become really hot and deform aluminium. on the long run, rivet are getting loose and water gets in. If you talk about the inside, I'm not sure you want to ear the answer , you might be deceived. But I can assure you that this bus with go everywhere around france, Uk and europe when it will be running. vjaska we'd like to come in uk when all is done to meet people liking old buses (we don't have much imperial buses here in france, way to busy hunting frogs) Here is where we come from (we didnt knew when we bought it.):

Update! I've contacted Bromley Bus Preservation Group and had a really quick answer of where to look. Thanks londonbusboy ! Tomorrow, draining the 47L of dirty expensive oil, checking the whole valves assembly because there is no reason only one was dis-functioning

Seems like if it has been flooded, you probably may want to change more of the fluids. I take it that bus has the Leyland hydracyclic gearbox.
