Had SPV1 on the Hampton Court shuttle... appeared to be very low on power and very shaky - took ages to get out of first gear with full throttle. Not sure the issue?

Not sure the issue? It developed a fault with the engine ECU which meant three out of six cylinders weren’t pumping. I had it taken out of service and it’s now in a workshop for repairs.

General news
Still the plan to reduce the SPV fleet. Most are not required and the only ones expected to stay are SPVs 6 and 7. The heavyweight single deckers are comfortable, sturdy buses
LK07 CCN was acquired temporarily due to having a Euro 6 exhaust and was to be designated SPV9, but has been sold and will not enter service with Replacement Bus Hire.
Fleet updates
23065 - stored unserviceable
AVW96 - Like with the import, I am taking on the registration, return to the road and further certification for PSV use on from scratch and managing the process until it's complete. Things will start moving forwards imminently.
LDP186 - quite a bit of work carried out to get it fit for a MOT. A fault with the ignition circuit was repaired by an electrician. It has had 6 brand new tyres, a corroded air tank replaced, an airbag replaced, a new multicircuit protection valve and a new top plate among other bits and pieces. Once it's done it will work in place of the SPVs as it consumes far less fuel.
MAL99 - further components have been recovered and will not work again.
MCL5 - ok now. The faults it came with have now been fixed at some considerable expense! Is a reliable machine that has been all around the south east, but surplus to requirements now so is up for sale.
SPV1 - suffered an ECU fault which knocked out three of the engine's cylinders. The ECU was replaced with a working one, but within 500 miles the fault happened again and the replacement ECU is cooked. To be stripped and scrapped. SPV2 - suffered a fault with the air compressor cylinder head/gasket. Although replacement parts were sourced to keep it working, unlikely to see service again. To be stripped and scrapped.
SPV3 - suffered a cooling fan seizure which caused damage to the belt and tensioner. An electrical fault resulted in a suspension malfunction, leading to a ruptured sump. To be stripped and scrapped.
SPV4 - ok, though earmarked for sale.
SPV5 - working, but earmarked to leave the fleet.
SPV6 - currently awaiting attention from an electrician. A communication fault between a FPS module and the MR unit (engine ECU) is preventing the bus from being able to start.
SPV7 - VOR while awaiting repairs.
SPV8 - requires new engine. To be scrapped as there's not much point stripping it.
TA23 - stored unserviceable - requires new engine.
VLA170 - driveable but no further use for it. It's taking up space so likely to be scrapped imminently.
VLA176 - stored unserviceable and likely to be sent to the scrappers minus the gearbox.
VNW32423 - stored unserviceable with a chuffing injector.

Would it be literally a new engine or a reconditioned euro2 unit done to original specs? A new crate engine - if you can still get one - would be easily into 5 figure territory. A used engine or a recon would be more far more economical. The latter a better option if the budget can be stretched that far since with a used one you don't know how knackered it is and how long its been sat out in a scrapyard in all weathers.

Running a business is all about adapting. PSVAR posed a challenge after I was meant to start out with TA18. So I bought the VLAs. Most clients now mandate tracking, so I had it fitted. So long as the work works for me I will adapt to be able to keep doing it.

At the moment I haven’t seen an attractive offer for rebuilding so looking at replacement, problem is there were never many C245 engines in the first place and at 25 years old a fair few of those won’t be in a condition to save.
