Does seem a good idea to consolidate these routes together, giving a bit more purpose to relevant sections and introducing some new links. Presumably the revised 497 will be increased in frequency to match the 346, or at least to every 20? The 347's section between Upminster and Ockendon is left without replacement - while largely unpopulated, there will be a small number of residents left without a bus service. Though a useful minor change could be for the 370 to serve a double run to Ockendon Station?

Amazing, all ahead with the ULEZ now that East London got its promised improvement, despite more links being lost here

Definitely not local but in my view this proposal is not too bad, but bad optics in the sphere of the promised increased investment for outer London services. I assume Clay Tye Road residents won't like this news, is this going to be Maypole Bo-peep esque where they tell passengers to walk down country lanes instead?

I'm not so sure I'd agree - the 346 reminds me of the R9 as a route more commonly found out of London that radiates from a particular point (a station in this case) to serve a particular area in a loop. There are lots of little, popular journeys on this route not just to & from Upminster but midway on route and the big concern would be reliability - personally, I'd leave it as it is. I'd of thought merging the Ockendon end of the 347 onto the 497 would of made more sense personally to give a Ockendon to Harold Wood route. The every 30 minute frequency (or even boost to every 20) may help boost ridership on the 347 section given it's currently a very low frequent service that operates at restricted times and not all week.

My guess is these changes would happen in January 2025, as that's when the new 497 contract is intended to start. So 497 won't get a 2-year contract extension and won't be retendered in the 2024/25 programme and it's contract will get rolled onto the 346 contract.

Ockendon Station is also only a 5 minute walk from the existing line of route, so it will just increase journey times for no reason. Route 370's journey time is already too long to compete with cars for people going from Romford/Hornchurch to Lakeside; the double run would make the journey even longer.

A much-needed and overdue change of making the 497 a bit more useful and also what should be a more frequent direct link between Harold Wood/Hill to Upminster instead of the 4 trips a day 347 or requiring a change at Hornchurch with the 248/370 & 256.

My guess is the changes would happen in January 2025 as that's when the 497 contract expires and Arriva get compensated for the 347 withdrawal. TFL shouldn't have awarded the 346 contract in the first place if this was planned before tender announcement.

Does this have anything to do with the ULEZ 1M miles thing? Because I remember seeing Harold Wood as one of the areas that was being looked at

Could it be possible to make the changes before the 346 tender starts in September?
