I see why not. Good idea for the extension to Tolworth station nearby.

I really like this short addition to the route. As said, it simplifies routings in Tolworth so northbound buses depart from the same place as those on routes 406 and 418, among other longer routes to Kingston. Obviously it also provides Signal Park with a closer bus stop and new links north of Kingston, alongside a link to Surbiton quicker than the K2. Just a sensible, no fuss solution.

With Tolworth Broadway served in both directions as well as crossing the Roundabout and getting closer to Tolworth Station on the 281, the combind 10 mins service on the 406/418 could be called into question. Would TfL possibly consider both routes back to every 30 mins on the Surrey section.

Far better than the 309 consultation, seems quite sensible IMO and from the few times I've used the Tolworth Tower stop, it shouldn't impact anyone that much in all honesty

Planned to be introduced in the 2023/24 financial year, if all goes ahead as proposed.

Really like this proposal, it serves the new development (which is massive!) and allows the 281 to properly serve Tolworth Broadway and Tolworth Station, taking pressure off the 406/418. Hopefully the extension will come with an extra bus added to the PVR, as the route will have to fully traverse Tolworth Roundabout in both directions.

It removes the historic loop working via Ewell Road that has existed since trolleybus days, when the 601 ran alongside the Kingston bypass for a short distance. This section had concrete trolleybus poles.
That said, is not a reason to oppose the change! I am firmly in favour of extending the 281 to the new development at Signal Park, saving people having to cross the A3 roundabout on foot, and of having all Kingston-bound buses at Tolworth Broadway serving a common stop.

There are pathways under the road as well that can be used. My major concern is that traffic across that roundabout can be extremely heavy at some times, even more so than the New Malden and Hook exits.

I believe some of the underpasses will be closed in the near future. Hopefully an extra bus is added to the PVR when this extension goes ahead.

I didn’t say I oppose it, the change to the 281!is one that has been mooted with every proposed development behind Charrington Bowl even when Tesco owned the land and were proposing a huge store with housing above and around it. I’m more cautious given the amount of traffic that crosses the area daily as it’s very prone to accidents and spill overs when the A3 is closed. But it’s a good idea and will likely be very cheap to do, shouldn’t require any additional resources at all.

If anything I think the frequency of both the 406 and 418 should be increased from 3bph to 4bph, but that isn't relevant to this thread.
