Posting to record the sad demise of the long-standing ferry link between Gravesend and Tilbury. This ceased from 30th March 2024 after Thurrock Council advised they could no long er maintain their portion of the funding it required. Kent CC has been unable to cover the full funding and has been unable to secure an operator to continue the service although efforts remain under way to find an operator willing to provide a service on a year-to-year basis. As ferry users will by now have had to make alternative arrangements any future ferry operation will be starting from a standpoint of no existing traffic and very little demand. letstalk.kent.gov.uk/ferryconsultation

That shame though. What happened to Bus Route 99 in Tilbury because it still services via the Ferry stop nearby?
Updated: I realize that not just ferry thing but factory nearby etc.

Updated: I realize that not just ferry thing but factory nearby etc. The 99 is essentially a railway replacement service in that when the station at Tilbury Riverside was closed, a bus service was set up as a compromise Tilbury Riverside closed on 30th November 1992, initially a minibus shuttle was provided. It was a condition of closure that the minibus had to be the same frequency as the rail service, and any withdrawal of the bus service had to undergo the same closure procedure as the rail service. This has evolved into Ensignbus' 99 route, which doubles up as a local bus service around Tilbury. Rail tickets can still be purchased to Tilbury Riverside or 'Tilbury Stations' and these are accepted on the 99 bus.

Just imagine if you live in Tilbury and work in Gravesend the hassle you would have to go through to get to work now c2c , X80 , then a bus from Bluewater or a train from Greenhithe , imagine the cost , plus the worry of work and bills etc with everything else .

A Tory council no less having given huge sums of residents money to a 'businessman' who has somehow 'vanished' - shocking stuff.

Not a lot different to Croydon Council setting up Brick By Brick, 'lending' them initially £200m, with zero paperwork or approval (that has ever been traced), and regularly having to be topped up by the council, that was seemingly run by the councillors friends and families. Why is there no official records on this? Incompetence, a criminality cover up, or both?
