Would be nice if these were used to enforce the no smoking policy at the bus stops too.

Would be nice if these were used to enforce the no smoking policy at the bus stops too. Most of the general public these days and especially post covid just think about themselves with a disregard for others. Installing cctv at shelters will have no effect on reducing people smoking but as you said it would be nice. Things like that as well as drinking on the tube used to irritate me but now it’s just how things are as the country has almost normalised anti social behaviour.

I think smoking is a bit different to the situation with drinking on the tube though. End of the day while still illegal, drinking isn't going to directly impact others while you do it unless you try to force it down someone's mouth for whatever reason, but smoking doesn't discriminate and will negatively affect everyone who is around the person who is smoking up a bus shelter.

On a few occasions I’ve had drunk passengers get on and cause disruption to other on board. Overall it is the safest way for them to get home however leave other passengers alone. I had to get the Police to remove a drunk laying on the back seats on the 450 he was taking up 5 seats and sorry he needed to be removed.

But people are outside in a public area. I get banning smoking in a bus station but it seems unrealistic to try and ban it in a public space on a public right of way.

Especially since bus stops/shelters are in no way enclosed. I was in the UAE recently and noticed all the shelters there had doors (because of the AC) and there is an example of where the policy could be applied.
