Due to a broken down train on Saturday my train was diverted onto platform 10A at Stratford and it got me thinking about the old layout of the station.
Does anyone know what the island platform for 9& 10 was built? I know it was around 1998- 1999. I am guessing it was constructed at the same time as the other changes for the Jubilee Line and new station entrance. Also when was the old signal box building demolished? There is a photo about half way down this web link link There are some old photos online of the old platform 9 and 10 before the work took place. From what I understand not many fast trains stopped at Stratford in the 80s and 90s.
And finally did any services run into platform 11 in the 1990s? I am under the impression regular services only started in the early 2000s or maybe 2010s?

The Wikipedia article on Stratford station might give some answers - it does cover all the platforms

There were always a few fast Southenders booked to call on the main lines. In the days when the standard pattern was Stratford - Ilford - Romford and all to Southend these were Stratford - Shenfield or Wickford and all except Prittlewell. They were running when I first knew Stratford in the 1960s and continued to do so until the much more recent vast expansion of the station and its services more or less linked to the 2012 Olympics and the then-planned Crossrail services.

Thanks for this! I assume the mainline was platforms 5 and 8? Do you happen to know what trains (if any) used the rather derelict platforms 9 and 10 in the 1980s and 1990s up until they were rebuilt as 9,10 and 10A.

The fast Southenders used what was the platform 10 (Down Main) or occasionally the Down Main Loop which IIRC was platform 12. 5 and 8 were the "Electric" line platforms normally used by all stoppers. From memory the old numbering was 1 - Low Level (Tottenham / Palace Gates service) 2 - Low Level (North Woolwich service) 3 - Westbound Central Line 4 - Disused London-facing bay 5 - Up Electric (slow line) 6 - Eastbound Central Line 7 - Disused bay 8 - Down Electric 9 - Up Main 10 - Down Main 11 - Up Main Loop 12 - Down Main Loop 13 - Up Lea Valley 14 - Down Lea Valley
