Some bus stops I would rename in my area: Sarre Avenue back to Airfield Way Tesco (just like the old days) St Laurence Church (370 stop) to Upminster Park since there is a few bus stops in Upminster named, ‘St Laurence Church’ Western Road to The Liberty Shopping Centre Collier Row/Clockhouse Lane to Collier Row Town Centre Is Collier Row a town? I would say yes - although it doesn't have a station it has plenty of bus links and is fairly suburban. I'd say it's bigger than Havering atte Bower, Marks Gate and Noak Hill which I wouldn't really consider them to be towns

Looking back to earlier posts there was debate about stops for now closed pubs that should be changed such as 'Walthamstow, Bakers Arms'. Well a few years later and we still have 'Bricklayers Arms' on the Old Kent Road and on Pickhurst Lane in Bromley we still have 'The Pickhurst' (for routes 138 & 246) even though the pub closed a few years ago and is now a Miller & Carter Steakhouse. Pickhurst Green would be more correct but I hope it doesn't change as it was my local for many years and is much missed.

Another example would be the Swan and Sugar Loaf' in Croydon that also closed in 2010 but continues to have bus stops named. Local to Heathrow, although they don't currently have bus stops 'local's continue to refer to locations as 'Peggy Bedford' and the 'Jolly Waggoner' roundabout which I think is rather nice.

Bricklayers Arms is the name of the junction as well where Old Kent Road, New Kent Road, Tower Bridge Road & Great Dover Street all meet, hence why it has stuck around.

The Angel pub used to be a coaching inn and disappeared many years ago, but I believe the Swiss Cottage is still trading. There are a few stations on the National Rail network that are named after pubs, such as Bat & Ball, Berney Arms, Portsmouth Arms (Barnstaple line)

The Bakers Arms pub, classed as Leyton, not Walthamstow, even though it is on the E17 Walthamstow side of Lea Bridge Rd/Hoe Street was a shame when it closed. I remember the pub well. It was named after the nearby Bakers Almhouses which is beside the post office and GOBLIN line. There are lots of places on the network with names of places long gone. Charlie Browns roundabout (pub gone), Gates Corner in South Woodford (Ford dealer shut)

It was originally built as a coaching inn in the 1840s in what was then regarded as the outskirts of London (now very much inner London) with fields surrounding it! How London has grown since those days.

It was originally built as a coaching inn in the 1840s in what was then regarded as the outskirts of London (now very much inner London) with fields surrounding it! How London has grown since those days. I didn't know the Swiss Cottage had been a coaching inn originally but it makes sense. The Angel was one of a cluster of coaching inns at that location, on the Great North Road just north of the City of London. At the time people could not enter and leave the City at night as it was considered too dangerous, so people stayed over at the Angel and other taverns before entering the City, or setting off in the early morning. With all the comings and goings, not to mention itinerant performers playing to the guests, it is a wonder how the guests got any sleep! Such taverns were typically galleried around an internal courtyard, The George Tavern in Southwark (another area of such inns just south of London Bridge) is a surviving example of this style. The Angel was also on the crossroads where the Great North Road crossed what was originally called "The New Road". This was built in 1756 to give cattle drovers from the west direct access to Smithfield Meat Market (which at the time was a livestock market) whilst avoiding the burgeoning and increasingly congested City of Westminster - it could be regarded as the world's first by-pass. This later became Marylebone/Euston/Pentonville Roads and became the boundary for railways from the North, which were allowed no closer to the centre of London and Westminster. City Road was added as an extension to give direct access to the City of London. It was along this corridor that George Shillibeer commenced his horse-drawn omnibus service between Paddington and Bank in 1829, widely credited as the first public bus service in London.

Not necessarily a bus stop rename, but a destination rename. In Dagenham, along the Heathway, southbound stops say ‘Towards Beckton or Dagenham Ford’s.’ It is redundant, as the 175 no longer serves Ford’s, as it is closed.
So I think the best thing to do now is name the destination: ‘Towards Beckton or Beam Park’, considering the Beam Park area is starting to get up and running, and the 174 at least passes through there.
And similar thing for another Dagenham stop: Ballards Road/Princess Parade. Currently says ‘Towards Becontree, Ford’s Works, or Rainham’. I would just change it to ‘Towards Becontree or Rainham’.

You could use Orchard Village, but that’s barely where the 174 passes through. You could also use Dagenham CEME… There really is just no name yet for the area between Dagenham and Rainham, so I guess Beam Park is the best option right now.
