So folks WH241 got me thinking about creating a new thread about this. Some routes in particular have not received new vehicles upon tender for a while. Some stretching back to the early to mid 2000s The 108 and 147 are amongst this list. Please feel free to add yours too.

P4 beats it by a year - no new buses since 2003 when it received new Pointer Darts. Since then, the next contract retained those Darts and then the subsequent contracts have seen majority allocations of ex ELBG Enviro 200’s from the 372 & 488. Newest bus officially allocated was 36665 which lasted briefly before withdrawn for sale so barring that one, it had one ex BK 11 reg example

Does stagecoach not respect that route enough to give it some new buses. Like honestly. That is really bad.

It hasn’t had its own set of new vehicles. The 255 is a weird case really, I still remember when it was allocated DDL’s, then in 2012 it received DWL’s cascaded from the 289 when that got its ENX’s then received the ENL’s from the 173. It might change next year though, depending on who wins it although Go-Ahead do now have Streetlites available from the 39 or E200’s from the 163/164 that they could win it with.

It’s actually astonishing, thanks to the fantastic www.countrybus.org/Dart/DRL.htm I did a little bit of research and the 255 has received batch after batch of vehicles cascaded down from conversions to newer vehicles or double decker. The latter has happened twice as far as I can see with the 319 and 173 both donating vehicles upon their conversions. That must be a TfL record for a 25 year old route to never receive its own set of brand new vehicles.

The 4 has been a dustbin route, almost always getting buses from another route and not a fresh new batch to start from day one. 86 has not had new vehicles since early 2000's although has had odd working new buses from other routes. 97 has had existing buses for years, in fact I believe its last new buses would have been the Titan's in early 80's. It never had fresh new buses for contract under Capital Citybus/First Capital, nor since Stagecoach took over the route since 2005, where it had existing buses.

Does routes get awarded new buses but have there new buses diverted to another route and the route that was supposed to get new buses left with existing buses count. If that is case then what the 460.
In 2008, was awarded with new buses in the form of brand new TEs but those were diverted to W for the 16. The 460 was with existing TPs and SELs. Then I was transferred from PV to AC and gained existing VPs. In 2015, was retained with brand new VWHs but they were diverted to the 6 and 98 so the 460 used existing VPs instead. In 2020, it was retained with existing VWHs.
The last time that the 460 gained new buses was in 2003 when it first started with brand new TPs.
The 460 is a weird route.

Interesting thread
51, 246, 386 since 2008 178, 347, P13 since 2004 194 since 2003 225, 315 486 since 2006 269 & 291, R3, R4 since 1999 I believe 428, 469 since 2009 B15 since 2009 however its allocation was swapped with the B12 and ended up with Cadets. R2 since 2007 R6 since 2001? R8 since 2006 all the other Rs had new buses between 2011-2013

186 - the last time it got new buses was in 2005 with brand new TEs but they were diverted to the 24 and got existing VPLs instead and wasn’t until 2007 when Metroline lost the 24 to GAL that the 186 got the TEs it deserved. In 2012, it was retained with existing TEs. In 2017, it with existing TEs but these replaced by existing VWs when it moved to HD. In it’s latest tender is was retained with existing VWHs in 2022.

240: i can’t remember the last time that the 240 ever received brand new buses. It was supposed to get new buses in 2012 when it was retained with brand new buses but never got them but had existing TEs instead.

That must be a TfL record for a 25 year old route to never receive its own set of brand new vehicles. Great example you mention in the 255, forgot all about that. The irony is it was originally set to receive new vehicles in 2009 as it was awarded with new buses to begin with but then the award was changed to existing buses for reasons that escape me.

Ironically, I think the previous contract before the Darts saw it gain new vehicles, those being single door ALX200's SLD42-49 at the time

349: never. Since it began it's been using buses from other route. It was supposed to get brand new buses in 2010 but never recived them.
