Interest from Local Transport Authorities (LTAs) in the second round of Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA 2) funding is considerably higher than the first round. 58 Expressions of Interest (EoI) have been submitted, compared to 35 for the previous round. Twelve of the EoI have come from LTAs that received funding in the first round.
Of the £129 million available through ZEBRA 2, £25 million has been prioritised for rural LTAs with a possible extension of the pot to £50 million, this is thought to have driven the increased interest. The funding will be allocated over the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 Finacial Years, with up to £89 million awarded in year one and up to £40 million in year two.
The Deadline for ZEBRA 2 applications is 15th December. Decisions will be made in March 2024 and vehicles must be ordered by 31st January 2025.
