VLW116's rear blind already looks dirty methinks they never cleaned the glass when they fitted the B&W ones
I believe TfL didn't want dot matrix displays on their buses because punters may not be able to see the blinds with the odd daytime glare. Yet with the present roller blinds, there are more reasons why punters can't always properly see them. Maybe TfL should consider putting their foot down on info clarity in the same way they do with having operators maintain headway.
The number of buses I have seen where the blind light doesn't work or the blind is not fitted in properly due to missing rollers (causing the background light to shine through, which is even worse than daylight glare). Time for TfL to move out the cretaceous period and join other British cities by going matrix.
The new White blinds may be more visual friendly, but they won't work any better with the existing problem of faulty blind lights, dirty display glass, etc.

I've probably missed something... but what's the reason for the change to white blinds again? I thought it was to do with visually impaired people. although, I have noticed that the yellow blinds do fade very quickly... Basically that is the reason, though I think the background lights should also be updated from tubes to LED. The ones on Go Ahead's 06 WVLs have excellent night displays, possibly the best on manual wind. The Es on the 196 however are not as good, are they still with tube lighting behind the blinds? the 196 E's had LED backlights fitted on refurb as E39 also gained a set of these on its front blinds. They aren't as clear as WVL's because Q's WVL's use polyester blinds and the 196's E's use Tyvek blinds. the difference is that the tyvek has fibreglass strands in it to prevent tearing and this dulls the light down a bit. The Polyester film lets more light through.

Indeed, so the next best thing would be to push firms into sorting out the blinds for better display, night time in particular. Go Ahead's buses are not too bad (possibly as so many have been refurbished within the last five years) but many drivers forget to turn their power blind lights on. Many of Abellio's Enviro400s and Volvos have terrible night displays, due to lack or partial lack of lighting. The E200s on the 152 were one of the worse prior to their powerblind retrofits.

Some LED's are rubbish, not all. the 318's buses look okay-ish with the black and white blinds, but it's the old flourescent tubes as a backlight that lets it down... the blind glass isn't being cleaned, just the blinds being changed out - unless they are using inferior material for the black and white blinds... The only good examples I've seen are the NBFL's ones so far - unless anyone can catch a night-time pic of one of the 24's... It just looks like a step backwards after more than 20 years of dayglo... Perhaps the powerblinded ones would look better due to their LED backlight that would complement the B&W sets. Surprised the 230 and 491 never gained B&W blinds...

Buses that have power blinds could be some of the last to have white blinds fitted because of the amount of time it would take to change the blinds, I have been told this is very awkward and reprogramming the software in the cab. I've seen a few route 386 buses with them at Blackheath, the ALX400s for the 269 at TB have them and I've seen one or two of these ALXs on the 208 and 61 as well as the 269. Not all of the ALX400s at TB are finished, though I'm sure this is progressing quite quickly. Paul or Londonbusboy are best placed to fill us in!

Well K1/K3 are taken over on Saturday and none of the powerblinded fleet have been reblinded. Hopefully once WL is done, they'll move over to TF.

Inserts may have been added to those vehicles, if not they will probably remain route bound until further changes have been made. I very much doubt Abellio would replace all those smart blinds. You may have noticed it is the Vehicles with Manual blinds that are getting replacement blinds at the moment.

Some of the Pointers still have missized destinations in lieu of proper via points, so I suspect they'll be treated first.

Judging from things it looks like Abellio are replacing all of their manual blinds. Hopefully Abellio have added inserts to all of TFs Smartblind Vehicles.
