Imagine the scenario: you've come into a little money and have inherited a small barn/unit allowing you to preserve one single bus. What would it be and why? Perhaps it was the first bus you drove or you regularly got on it to go to school. You can pick a bus that has been scrapped - since we are talking hypothetical here - and it is not limited to a specific example, you can name a make and model instead.

For me it would be a 55 reg Electrocity and an 07 reg Gemini Hybrid, they marked the first Hybrid SD and Hybrid DD in London respectively so for this reason I would preserve them

Good topic! For me, i would preserve quite a few buses, such as DW1, Metrobus's 190, DLA181, DLA223, DLA287, Metrobus 6287, 317 and 6344 and T64. I can't choose if i could only preserve one

For me i would preserve either DMS2397 (the bus i trained up with) or Metrobus M265, the first double decker i drove in service. Come to think of it i would like to have preserve two buses each:
• B20 DMS with original and Iveco engines
• Metro with Gardner and Cummin L10 engines

Well...quite a lot of my favourites are safely preserved already. Lots of Routemasters in various guises, including my personal favourite RM 8, a Shillibeer and others (though I wouldn't mind preserving one of RM 1650 or RM 1871 in Silver Jubilee livery complete with carpets!), but with there being plenty of other Routemasters preserved, I'm going to discount them. Plenty of RT family preserved too (though it would be nice to repatriate RT 82 from the USA to go with the other four preserved 2RT2s), and plenty of RFs too, so will discount them, too. We have Swifts, Merlins, and an increasing number of DMSs preserved too. Ditto Metrobuses and Titans. With the recent unveiling of Olympian L97, we're not badly off for ECW Olympians either. So for me, it's got to be something that's thin on the ground, or endangered. And that means some of the oddities. The original batch of Ford Transits that ran on the C11, P4, B1 etc. might be a nice choice, there isn't one of the ex. Bournemouth DMO convertible Fleetlines preserved yet as far as I know, although DMO 3 is definitely still with us, but I think I'd go for one of the little BS class Bristol LHSs : there is a formerly preserved example at Staplecroft Garden Centre, near Bodiam Castle in Sussex (just off the A21) that for me is crying out to be removed, restored and operated again. It's the former BS5 (GHV505N), which was a former C11 vehicle. I wonder how much money they'd want for it?...

Would have to be a Citaro bendy bus from the original Stagecoach 453 batch for two reasons.
1) no one else has and it was a important chapter in the London bus scene.
2) It was the last type of bus driven by late father before he passed away. (examples of the other types he drove are already preserved)

As my username suggests, defo a MCW Metrobus, preferably B199 WUL , but seeing as that was shipped off to Poland for driver training, I'd highly doubt it'll ever grace these shores again! (That's if it haven't already been scrapped!) Failing that, any decent Metro with the Gardner/Voith combination. - Because I grew up with them on the 98/207/207A/222/223, I also spent time fixing them when I did my school work experience at UX and finally I love the sounds, clunks and clonks they make!
If I was a millionaire, I'd also like to own: Leyland National MK.1 (Dual door) Mercedes Benz 811D Alexander, F601 XMS, MA1 Dennis Lance Wright Pathfinder, ODZ8912, LLW12 - someone has to like them! Volvo Olympian NC Palatine 2, P242 UCW, V42 Dennis Dart Marshall Capital, R180 TLM, DML41180 Dennis Dart Marshall Capital, T336 ALR, DML41336 Dennis Trident Plaxton President, W925 VLN, TNL32926 Dennis Trident ALX400, YN51 KVZ, 9765 Transbus Trident President, LK03 UFM, TN33333/TP1530
The irony of it is, I've got the capital to chuck at a Minor restoration project and my sisters partner has a farm, just the layout of it would mean it'd be tight getting an MPD into the barn.
On the heritage scene, I'm probably speaking for myself here but I would like to see more vehicles preserved from the 70's-90's period, yes RT's/RM's are iconic and throughly deserve their place as heritage vehicles, but I probably travel in them (well RM's) more now than when they were in front line service, thus meaning I tend to find rally's getting more and more boring. It'd be good to have a bit more variety! (Gonna get shot down in flames now!)

A pre war 'Q' type DD, just to show that nothings new under the sun. What a shame they were scrapped. Ditto RTC1 (a 2RT2 that was converted to a Green Line coach, for those unaware), all the pre-war Leyland STDs, the AEC Reliance RC coaches, the London Country AF class Fleetlines, all the Bristol and Daimler utilities...
