How about a thread for general discussion and ranting, I know we have a forum with a similar title but sometimes i have things to say that don't fall into existing posts but don't really seem worthy of a new thread.
All the things that have made us smile, laugh, shout, rant, scream, cry?, angry or just something interesting thats happened in a day

Oh go on then I'll start the ball rolling with something happy (Don't think there will be many more of these ) Sunday night whilst doing the 89 I got a marriage proposal (Egg/469King no peetaking ) the problem is the girl was about 5 ), now the reason for this proposal is, going along Coylers Lane and was requested to stop by two women and two young children with two dogs, when they boarded (I always allow dogs as I pray they might mess on the bus ;D) one of the young girls asked if they had to go upstairs, I said no (yeah I know they are supposed to, but one of the women was disabled (downs) and the kids were young and I was running late so didn't want to have to wat for then to get up the stairs) anyway as I was driving (pretty rapidly, as previously mentioned I was late about 15 minutes with no turn likely) I could hear the children and the women talking, one of te children was saying things like, I like this driver, he's good etc.... then one of the women asked the girls if she was going to marry the driver, to which she repled yes and then proceed to plan the wedding, even down to the first dance I coldn't help but smile and when they got off the all came to the front to thank me. It's little things like that, that make this job worthwhile, along with the lady who gave me a Ferrero Roche later in the trip ;D Now that's enough from me I'll let someone else have a go as to why ALL bus drivers say never do the job

I don't care whether she was 5 or 25 - it is the thought that counts So you're up for Bus Driver of the Year now

Someone on Saturday on the 132 insisted on giving me £3.80 for two fares. When I pointed this out he got quite abusive telling me he had given me about £7.00 already. To top it all after getting out all this change he then gave me a £5 note. Whllst going up Gravel Hill he told all his friends what an idiot I was - I couldn't help but chip in a point out the problem was his and he had only given me £3.80. He then came up to the cab and said I hope you enjoy your job you arsehole. All the time I had been trying to help the bloke!!!!!!! - I t was very tempting to pull up and say well this arsehole is going to make you walk to Bexleyheath. In contrast in the morning an elderly couple were at Avery Hill and couldn't make it to the stop. They were most grateful I picked them up at the lights - so it had its positive side.

Had a sidcup station one morning last week, when i got there i shouted last stop blah blah, everyone got off except for one woman who came to the front and shouted at me "how the f**k am i supposed to get to work now?" to which i replied "if you talk to me like that I really don't care!" she then demanded a transfer ticket but seeing as she had been Soooo polite(!) i refused (I had been showing Sidcup station all the way) I told her if she didn't read the blinds thats her problem. (but politely i remained polite throughout) She then positioned herself in the doors so i couldn't close them, "until i give her a transfer ticket" at that point roadside radioed me wanting my location so i told him what was going on, she didn't like it when his reply was "do a code red or take her back to Greenwich"
Anyway the point to this is, when are people gonna learn... stop me from proceding... I DON'T CARE I'M GETTING PAID FOR SITTING HERE!!!! when i told her that she told me "Don't be so sure, I've had drivers sacked before" I'm still waiting to get the sack for "turning at sidcup station when instructed to by a controller"
Can see it now... "welcome to London central... just one other question, why did you get sacked from arriva?"
"authorized curtailment"

Am I right in thinking that you don't have to issue a transfer ticket if you have been showing SP Stn from the outset? "authorized curtailment" Correct, although it depends what you have on the ticket machine, if you change it so you only issue tickets as far as Sidcup Station then no, however a lot of drivers don't bother and still issue tickets for the full trip, then I think you would be obliged to issue transfer tickets.

I always change my machine to the same as my blinds unless I'm turned halfway through a trip, in which case passengers have every right to a transfer ticket and passage to end of route

Indeed. If you don't set the ticket machine up correctly as in this example to on show SP Stn then you cause more problems for yourself. Am I right in thinking that you don't have to issue a transfer ticket if you have been showing SP Stn from the outset? Correct, although it depends what you have on the ticket machine, if you change it so you only issue tickets as far as Sidcup Station then no, however a lot of drivers don't bother and still issue tickets for the full trip, then I think you would be obliged to issue transfer tickets.

Evening Standard showed a picture of an LC AVL de-roofed by a railway bridge in Sydenham today... anyone know which bus this was?
Are LC going to replace the roof, or pass it onto the Private Hire Dept to turn it into an open topper?

Article in today's (friday) Sun Bus Registration V141LGC (not sure how the AVL's are numbered (would be either AVL41 or AVL141) It's the third bus to hit the same bridge in the last two years Edit: found the article online with photos. Room for one more on top
